April - 12 minis in 12 months 2018 - Mirabelle

Very pleased to share my April mini for #12minisin12months sew along hosted by Kait over at Knot and Thread Design.

I have had this mini charm pack of Mirabelle by Fig Tree and Co. in my stash for a few years and this year I just needed to make up into something.

Here in Minnesota spring has been late in arriving this year. So, if Mother Nature won't give me spring color, I'll make my own : )

It turned out SO pretty. I'm glad I settled on a simple layout. It was meant to have a border, but when I finished quilting it and saw my design sheet, I realized I had forgotten it.  Oops! Straight line quilting on each side of each seam to keep it simple.

Second and third of twelve mini quilts 2018

Thanks to the #12minisin12months sew-along hosted by Kait over at Knot and Thread Design, my mini quilt wall is growing! So glad I jumped on board with this sew-along.

Here's my little cross & star block finished for February. This block has been on my mind since seeing Taunja's over at Carried Away Quilting - gorgeous!

Straight-line quilting is my thing and it fits perfectly with this one-block mini quilt. I'm thinking I might need a bigger quilt made with this block.

My favorite print from Bonnie & Camille's Daysail fabric line is so cute to see up on the wall.

My finish for March was a slight variation of the star & cross block - added a square in the center of the cross. I just needed to see how it would look.

Such a pretty little finish using my favorite print form Fig Tree & Co.'s Strawberry Fields fabric line.

Again, straight line grid quilting for the quilting win. Lines are 3/8" apart. So, so much fun quilting up both of these mini quilts. They both make me smile, but I think the star & cross might be my favorite (I'm a bit partial to plus blocks : )

Winter Blues wallhanging - First of twelve mini quilts 2018

Hi!
This year I'm joining in a fun, yearlong sew-along put together by Kait over at Knot and Thread Design - 12 Minis in 12 Months (over on Instagram- #12minisin12months) . My home is in need of a few small wallhangings and for some time now I have wanted to start a mini-quilt wall in my sewing corner. What a great way to stay motivated throughout the year.

This Winter Blues wallhanging is my first mini quilt for 2018. I pulled some small yardage pieces of Snowman Gatherings and Snowman Gatherings II fabric from my stash bin and settled on a super fun pattern of Sherri's (A Quilting Life) - Hope Chest Quilt.

This little wallhanging was really a lot of fun to piece. Love how you piece four blocks and get a surprise fifth block when its all together. (Hilarious/slap forehead moment - had a brain glitch when cutting squares for HST - completely forgot you got two HST from each square set. Duh! Now I have enough triangles pieced for another wallhanging just like this one : )

A little walking foot quilting and ta da! cute finish just perfect for January going into February in Minnesota.

Reindeer Quilt - A JOL Jelly Roll Log Cabin Quilt

JOL jelly roll log cabin quilt
First, let me say that the fabric line JOL by Northern Quilts for Moda Fabrics was an absolute joy to make with. The red is the perfect winter red and the grays play so beautifully with the red. Such cute prints with reindeer, hearts, and snowflakes.

After settling on a log cabin block, it took some tricky math to figure out how many blocks could be obtained from a jelly roll. Next step, layout. So many layout options!

Although this quilt took longer than first anticipated to get finished, in the end we are all quite satisfied with how it turned out.  (Stared February 2017 - I tend to be a seasonal quilter and didn't get it finished before spring arrived and the desire to work on it passed.)

We made the checkered border from some leftover jelly roll strips and added them so that the quilt would not be square. (I don't really care for square throw quilts.)  A quality flannel sheet makes the perfect backing. So soft! (and so much more affordable from the winter clearance shelf : )

You know I like a good quilt roll pic : )

I tried to get it finished by February 2018, but that didn't happen either. No matter. It is finished now and being used and enjoyed by all.

Quilt Stats:
Fabric: JOL by Northern Quilts for Moda Fabrics
Batting: Dream Cotton natural
Backing:  Nice flannel sheet

Finished: March 2018

Joyful day!

Avalon leftovers - a pretty little runner

What do you do with leftover charm squares that are too pretty to toss? Slice them in half and make a pretty little runner featuring my favorite Fig Tree blue from the fabric line Avalon for Moda Fabrics.

This was a quick, super fun project to finish - finished in a short afternoon.

Super fun wavy quilting.

Crisp, clean and pretty. Really like the binding and border fabric matching.

Love me a little quilt roll : )

Love, love, love how this skinny little runner turned out!

Joyful day, everyone!
