September - 12 minis in 12 months 2018 - Trim bits of Farmhouse

Over the weekend I gave into temptation and took a break from pattern testing to play with the corner pieces trimmed from my in-progress quilt pattern blocks.

After previewing several layouts, this was it. Layout options when working with HSTs (half-square triangles) truly are countless. All you have to do is a turn a couple, and voila! - a new layout!

Tried something a little different with quilting. Still used the walking foot but mixed up directions and tried to find shapes within shapes. Not sure how I feel about it yet, but at least I tried something new ; )

This little mini quilt will go up on my mini quilt wall or be used wherever needed as a little table topper or candle mat. It does feel good to use up some little scrap bits.

It also feels good to have finished September's mini quilt for #12minisin12months. Woohoo!!! Now I can focus on a custom quilt in the queue and finishing up my first quilt pattern.

Happy quilting, everyone!

August - 12 minis in 12 months 2018 - Somerset Figgy goodness

This pretty little Somerset quilt didn't get done in August but in early September - close enough ; ) Such a super fun, super quick finish (thank goodness because that is all it seems I have time for currently.)

These little mini charm packs are turning out to be the perfect thing to create with lately.  Grab a little bit of background and mini charm pack, and in no time you have a quick little quilt finished.

Mini and quick doesn't have to mean boring and/or no impact - I love the impact the center of this little mini quilt offers.

Simple straight line crosshatch quilting. Ah! the little X's in all the little squares - perfect!

Really do love these colors!

Quick little squares folded in half as hanging corners - now this little mini quilt can be used as a table topper or wallhanging.

Beautiful little mini quilt just in time for fall knocking on the door : )

Happy quilting, Everyone!

July - 12 minis in 12 months 2018 - Scrappy Fig Tree

Had such a difficult time settling on what to do this month for #12minisin12months by  Knot and Thread Design.  Played around with a BUNCH of ideas but just couldn't get started with one UNTIL I came across this little baggie of HSTs leftover from a previous project. Within an afternoon I had this little cutie finished. When inspiration strikes, it's a very good thing : )

Loving these little bits of Fig Tree goodness. This line is California Girl for Moda Fabrics.

Once I got started, I wondered if I'd be able to finish - working with such little pieces was a bit more than I bargained for.  (Those little HST squares finish at 1". 1"!!!) But, I took a deep breath and decided to take my time. Turns out that sometimes slowing down helps to finish quicker. Who knew : )

Did a little straight line grid quilting. Went with 1/2" this time. Like how the corners mimic the center.

There is something very satisfying about using these little scrappy leftover bits. Even most of the background is leftover bits that were lying on my cutting table. Went with matching binding to use up even more leftovers. Loving the simplicity.

This is the quickest, most unplanned quilt I've ever made. So, so fun. I think I need more quilts like this : )

June - 12 minis in 12 months 2018 - Mini Charm Fun with Nest

Hello Quilty Friends! It's only mid month and I'm excited to be presenting my June mini quilt for #12minisin12months by Kait over at Knot and Thread Design and it's accompanying tutorial! Yes, the pattern is a repeat of May's mini, but as I have received several requests for a pattern I thought I'd make it up again and write up a tutorial as I went.

Ah! Nest is just as nice to work with as I anticipated. Love the blues! and greens! and grays! and cheerful pops of pink. Probably going to be sharing other projects with this lovely fabric line by Vanessa over at Lella Boutique.

This is an excellent start, but, yes, most definitely need to make more with Nest.  Here are a few of my favorite prints...

Oh! and more stripe binding!! Loving it, even more so when I get the stripes to match up, which is not as difficult as I thought it was going to be.  A bit fiddly, but very doable.

Simple quilting with a touch of cross hatch in the corners, which makes my quilty heart happy : )

Per request, I am excited to share my first ever tutorial in this little quilt tutorial. You can find it here.

May - 12 minis in 12 months 2018 - Mini Charm fun with Ella & Ollie

Spare time was in extra rare supply during the month of May so for #12minisin12months by Kait over at Knot and Thread Design a super super simple mini quilt was in order. (read - no time for picking out a pattern : ) But, simple does not mean not pretty.

Working with a mini charm pack of Ella and Ollie by Fig Tree Quilts was so much fun and yielded such pretty, pretty results. I have wanted to make with this fabric for a few months now and it felt so good to finally just do it! Simple really does have it's own rewards.

Isn't the diagonal striped binding just perfect?!?! I think I need striped binding on ALL the quilts.

Simple pattern requires simple quilting - straight-line quilting either side of seams.

Love the little bit of crosshatch quilting in the corners.

This happy little quilt brightens up our front entranceway. I'm so thrilled to have a bit of these beautiful colors and prints up on the wall to greet visitors. You can be sure there will be more projects in the future featuring this gorgeous line by Fig Tree.

PS: Stay tuned for the tutorial for this cute little wallhanging/table topper.
Coming June 2018.

April - 12 minis in 12 months 2018 - Mirabelle

Very pleased to share my April mini for #12minisin12months sew along hosted by Kait over at Knot and Thread Design.

I have had this mini charm pack of Mirabelle by Fig Tree and Co. in my stash for a few years and this year I just needed to make up into something.

Here in Minnesota spring has been late in arriving this year. So, if Mother Nature won't give me spring color, I'll make my own : )

It turned out SO pretty. I'm glad I settled on a simple layout. It was meant to have a border, but when I finished quilting it and saw my design sheet, I realized I had forgotten it.  Oops! Straight line quilting on each side of each seam to keep it simple.

Winter Blues wallhanging - First of twelve mini quilts 2018

Hi!
This year I'm joining in a fun, yearlong sew-along put together by Kait over at Knot and Thread Design - 12 Minis in 12 Months (over on Instagram- #12minisin12months) . My home is in need of a few small wallhangings and for some time now I have wanted to start a mini-quilt wall in my sewing corner. What a great way to stay motivated throughout the year.

This Winter Blues wallhanging is my first mini quilt for 2018. I pulled some small yardage pieces of Snowman Gatherings and Snowman Gatherings II fabric from my stash bin and settled on a super fun pattern of Sherri's (A Quilting Life) - Hope Chest Quilt.

This little wallhanging was really a lot of fun to piece. Love how you piece four blocks and get a surprise fifth block when its all together. (Hilarious/slap forehead moment - had a brain glitch when cutting squares for HST - completely forgot you got two HST from each square set. Duh! Now I have enough triangles pieced for another wallhanging just like this one : )

A little walking foot quilting and ta da! cute finish just perfect for January going into February in Minnesota.

Avalon leftovers - a pretty little runner

What do you do with leftover charm squares that are too pretty to toss? Slice them in half and make a pretty little runner featuring my favorite Fig Tree blue from the fabric line Avalon for Moda Fabrics.

This was a quick, super fun project to finish - finished in a short afternoon.

Super fun wavy quilting.

Crisp, clean and pretty. Really like the binding and border fabric matching.

Love me a little quilt roll : )

Love, love, love how this skinny little runner turned out!

Joyful day, everyone!
