Reindeer Quilt - A JOL Jelly Roll Log Cabin Quilt

JOL jelly roll log cabin quilt
First, let me say that the fabric line JOL by Northern Quilts for Moda Fabrics was an absolute joy to make with. The red is the perfect winter red and the grays play so beautifully with the red. Such cute prints with reindeer, hearts, and snowflakes.

After settling on a log cabin block, it took some tricky math to figure out how many blocks could be obtained from a jelly roll. Next step, layout. So many layout options!

Although this quilt took longer than first anticipated to get finished, in the end we are all quite satisfied with how it turned out.  (Stared February 2017 - I tend to be a seasonal quilter and didn't get it finished before spring arrived and the desire to work on it passed.)

We made the checkered border from some leftover jelly roll strips and added them so that the quilt would not be square. (I don't really care for square throw quilts.)  A quality flannel sheet makes the perfect backing. So soft! (and so much more affordable from the winter clearance shelf : )

You know I like a good quilt roll pic : )

I tried to get it finished by February 2018, but that didn't happen either. No matter. It is finished now and being used and enjoyed by all.

Avalon leftovers - a pretty little runner

What do you do with leftover charm squares that are too pretty to toss? Slice them in half and make a pretty little runner featuring my favorite Fig Tree blue from the fabric line Avalon for Moda Fabrics.

This was a quick, super fun project to finish - finished in a short afternoon.

Super fun wavy quilting.

Crisp, clean and pretty. Really like the binding and border fabric matching.

Love me a little quilt roll : )

Love, love, love how this skinny little runner turned out!

Joyful day, everyone!

Quilted Dresser Runner - All Solids

The request was for a red and green dresser runner, nothing fancy.

The challenge was to work with these colors and create something that would work year round, not just at Christmastime.  I think we accomplished just that.

Somehow it slipped my mind how challenging quilting on the diagonal can be, especially with a quilt this long. Either I need to practice more or give it up entirely - not my favorite to do but seemed to be what this quilt needed. As I was quilting, it felt like it was going to be a flop, but it turned out very nice indeed and square!

Overall very pleased with how this quilted runner finished. It was so easy and fun working with just three colors and simple blocks.

Winter Blues runner

Turning this selection of prints from the Town Square collection by Holly Taylor for Moda into a long log-cabin-block runner was the plan from the moment I first saw this fabric collection.  I have always wanted to work up a one color quilt. These blues were the perfect opportunity! (Blue is my favorite color : )

These blocks worked up so fast. Pieces can be cut and pieced in the traditional piecing method, but I chose to strip piece these. I tried this method with Autumn Beauty Runner and loved how quickly the blocks went together. Again, I pre-pressed the fabric with Best Press and came up the same results - crisp, flat blocks!

Straight line quilting was just the perfect touch - clean and simple. Love it! Makes me smile every time I walk past it : ) Hmm, is that totally silly or totally understandable???

I also love a good quilt roll : ) and 84" makes a good one!

This blue-loving family couldn't be happier with how this runner turned out. It was such a joy working on this quilt. My "winter blues" are now history.  So, so glad I pushed through my creating doldrum and made that first cut.

It's going to work just fine on the entertainment center until it's time to put out something for spring. (Yes, that's one last little bit of Christmas still out. Just not ready to put it away yet.) My young teenage son said it's his favorite quilt. Score one for mom! : )

Doubles as a bedrunner - two for one!

Autumn Beauty runner

Autumn Beauty - fresh finish using Fall Festival fabric line by Wilmington Prints fabrics. Lovely, lovely fabric. It reminds me of the color of a sunny autumn day when the light filters through and bounces off the orange and yellow leaves - warm and cheerful.

Started with a fat quarter bundle and added a couple of Moda Marbles - the orange and cream. The design went through a few changes from start to finish, but I am very pleased with the end results.

Quilting this runner was fun.  I really focused on my technique and got better results - straighter lines with fewer wobbles.

The obligatory rolled quilt shot : )  Love this quilt roll! 90" of rolled quilted table runner. SOOO cool!
