Just a Charm Pack Quilt

Recently I have been in a bit of a sewing/quilting doldrum but still wanting to feel productive and make. Just didn't know what to make or what pattern to use, couldn't seem to settle on anything. One of my kids suggested I make something just for fun. With a little bit of reminiscing, I remember having a lot of fun making with just a charm pack of 5" squares. It's been ages since I made with just a charm pack.

It's so easy and fun! All you need to do is grab a charm pack, in this case Flirt by Sweetwater for Moda Fabrics, pair up the lights and dark and make a bunch of HSTs (half-square triangles). HSTs are such a versatile block/quilting unit. You can literally spend all day testing out different layouts. My love for HSTs is still going strong : )

With no background or pieces to cut and no borders (I'm not a big fan of borders), this cute little quilted wallhanging went together so quickly.
Note to self: it would go even quicker if you remember to press seems open AFTER trimming up with the Block-Loc.

I even took a little extra time and quilted crosshatch straight-line quilting a little smaller than I usually do. Love it!

Don't you just love a good star center on your quilts, especially wall hangings or table toppers?
This simple quilt design (about 24" square) is perfect for the cute text prints and small prints of Sweetwater Flirt

Moda Fabrics black Marble for the binding.
This little quilt is going in our master bedroom. Currently a black, red, white and gray check quilt resides on our bed and this is going to look just right on the wall.

If you find yourself in a bit of a sewing/quilting funk, grab yourself a charm pack that you like, make a bunch of HSTs, and before you know it you will have finished and quilted a cute little quilt that you can use as a table topper or a wall hanging.

Happy quilting, everyone : )

  1. I love this cutie! You sound like my kinda gal. I have a bunch of piles of fabrics that go good together, but can’t decide on a pattern. I do have a single charm pack that’s wanting to be used. This might fit the bill. Thanks!

    1. Thank you for your kind comment! Have you seen the other one I made? It's here https://www.freshdewdrops.com/2022/08/just-charm-pack-fresh-fig-favorites.html
Good for charm squares or your own-cut squares. So fun to play with layouts.

  2. I love polkadots, and my daughter bought me a couple of charm packs and I might just be using them for this little wall hanging, thanks for the great idea❣️

  3. LOVE this!! As a novice quilter & a senior to boot, I need ideas/patterns that look delightful, but doable! I have a Flirt charm pack, and this is the best idea I've found to use for that fabric! Now I'm fired up to get it done, even though it will be awhile before it graces whatever spot I choose to display it! (Then again, aren't hearts in style year round!?) Thank you for sharing this and the fresh fig pattern as well! Both are lovely!!

    1. Oh, I remember wanting to quilt and thinking it was totally beyond me until I came across a blogger who made it seem so doable. I'm so glad that I have passed on the inspiration. It is doable! And, I'm actually working on a pattern for Just a Charm Pack that is going to include multiple layout options with coloring pages.

  4. Would this pattern look good as a quilt? 3 or 4 across and 3 or 4 down?
