Simply Done: Good Fortune version

One of my daughters requested a quilt for her birthday this year. And it gone finished on time!!!!
She loves how it turned out. Her bed looks kinda fancy now : )

I purchased this Good Fortune fabric by Kate Spain for Moda fabrics a several years ago. She loved it then and still does (whew!). She asked if Moda Black Marble would work with it. What do you think? I think it's an awesome pairing with the jewel tones of the Good Fortune fabric.

I used my Simply Done pattern to get this quilt done in record time. The pattern is written with traditional piecing, but I must confess that if I can strip piece I do. Not sure if it is any faster, but I personally prefer strip piecing versus cutting a bunch of small pieces and piecing them together. Either way you choose to piece, Simply Done is a breeze to cut and piece and makes a quick, fun finish.

Piece block pieces to background strips.  Trim and slice pieces/background strip.

All pieces/strip sliced apart and pressed. Repeat for second side.

Backing for this quilt is a rich purple cotton velour. It adds a little bit of weight but is so lusciously soft and cuddly.

Simple straight line quilting. The key with quilting with velour backing is to remember to quilt with the nap, NOT against it. Goes a lot smoother and more evenly.

My second version of my Simply Done quilt pattern turned out beautifully. So thrilled with how happy the birthday girl was to receive it. Many thanks go out to my helpful team of little helpers who pitched in and helped with pressing and snipping and crawling around on the floor to lay it out : )

Simple Irish chain table runner

When we moved to our current home a few years ago, we discovered that for the first time we had lilacs! Yes, I really like lilacs : ) Such a pleasant site after a long, cold, dreary winter.

And every spring since we have picked bouquets and bouquets of lilacs, and every spring since I have made plans to make a green and white runner. Let's face it. Runners should coordinate with the flowers : )

This year it got done! One of my daughters has been wanting me to do a simple Irish chain quilt so I tried it with this little table runner. Don't you just love the simplicity?!

The plan was to keep it simple with just green and white, but I did add a bit of interest and fun by selecting two different prints of Lollipop Garden by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics.  Doesn't that dot print make a fun binding?

This little quilted table runner made a perfect backdrop for the lilacs this year. So, so pretty (and such a lovely scent filled the house!)

Straight-line diagonal grid quilting - again, to keep it simple. Love how the quilting adds just the right finishing touch.

Cute little rolled quilt - those dots on the binding make me smile : ) So fun!

Looks beautiful and perfect with roses, too!

Quilt Pattern: Charming Barn Quilt 2

Introducing Charming Barn Quilt 2 - a charm pack/mini charm pack quilt pattern!

With either a charm pack (5-inch squares) or a mini charm pack (2 1/2-inch squares) you can make a 40" x 40" quilt or a 15" x 15" quilt.

My Charming Barn Quilt 2 is made up with Ella and Ollie by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda Fabrics. Love this fabric line!

Striped binding for the binding win - such a cute finishing touch!

My version of Charming Barn Quilt 2 features straight line quilting. I quilted lines a little over half inch apart. It hangs better than a previous wall hanging that I did with less than half-inch spaced lines.

Charming Barn Star 2 quilt pattern is now available in my shop and includes two sizes. You can make a wall hanging, table topper, mat, mini quilt, or a baby quilt.

Happy quilting, folks! : )

New Quilt Pattern: Simply Done

 Introducing Simply Done Quilt Pattern

Excited to share a new pattern with you all today. Super simple, super quick quilt top to finish.
When I designed this quilt pattern I wanted a pattern that had very few seams to match and that kept fabric pieces big to feature color and print. Simply Done Quilt Pattern accomplished exactly that.

Simply Done quilt pattern is the perfect pattern if you need or want a quick finish. It is a perfect pattern to feature your favorite fabric prints and colors.

Are you a beginner quilter looking for a simple quilt pattern with little-to-no seams to match? Then the Simply Done Quilt Pattern is just the pattern to start with.

I personally enjoy making Simply Done so much that I have two more planned to gift : )

New Quilt For The Family - Winter Quilt II - Hearthside Holiday

When I saw Hearthside Holiday by Deb Strain for Moda Fabrics I knew I had found the fabric line I have been waiting for to make Christmas stockings for my family - as a family we love the prints and colors . When I discovered it came in a brushed option, I knew I had found the fabric to make a second winter/Christmas quilt for our family.

Brushed fabric is so soft and makes the cuddliest quilts. It's like flannel only lighter. Our first Christmas/winter quilt is made of brushed cotton fabric. As it has begun to show its use, I have been on the search for the perfect fabric to make another family winter quilt.

We couldn't be happier with how this winter quilt turned out. I settled on a very simple pattern to showcase the fabric pints and colors and, well, just because I really like simple.

My goal was to have this done by Christmas, but that didn't happen. I focused instead on making sure I finished everyone's stocking and name tag.

The kids were a bit nervous about not using the red and white stockings we have used for years, but once these new mom-made stockings and tags were finished, I was informed that they are SO much better than those old red and white ones : )

Yes, after Christmas passed I rehung the stockings and left them up well into January : ) For the stockings I used Hearthside Holiday in regular woven, not brushed. For the body of the stockings I used a heavy cotton fleece that I have had for years not knowing what to use it for. Perfect match!

Using my walking foot I quilted slightly wavy lines about one and half inches apart.

For the backing I used a cotton flannel sheet from JCPenney. I have used these flannel sheets on a couple quilts now and I very pleased with them - soft and non pilling. And you can't beat the price when they are on clearance ; )

Though this quilt didn't actually take a long time from start to finish (November 2018 - February 2019), I'm happy to have it finally done after so many delays and interruptions. Was beginning to think it would not be finished until next winter. As it is, with 3 feet of snow on the ground, we still have plenty of winter left to enjoy this quilt : )
