Pretty Autumn Table Runners


This past autumn (2025) I had the opportunity to design and make with some gorgeous fall fabric - Hoffman Fabrics' Harvest Bouquet - and made two simple yet so so pretty quilted table runners.


First up is this simple table runner made with strips of varying widths cut width of fabric long. A very quick quilt to make with space a plenty for the quilting to shine. 


Again, I thought lattice quilting would suit this runner well so I used the second of two fall/autumn versions that Urban Elementz came up with for the Floral Crosshatch (love this quilting panto) edge-to-edge longarm quilting pantograph. (Urban Elementz is the best!)

Harvest Crosshatch did not disappoint. It stitched out so quickly and neatly.
Don't you just love the little pumpkins and leaves with the crosshatching?! 
I turned out so well.  This tablerunner finished at 14" x 41".

The second simple-yet-pretty table runner I made with Harvest Bouquet was designed to focus on the gorgeous pumpkin print.


Such rich fall colors to bring the warmth and coziness of fall indoors. This quilted fall table runner finished a bit bigger at 14" x 54".


Using my regular sewing machine and walking foot, I did wavy straight-line quilting to add simple movement.

These runners were such a joy to make and gift.

Christmas 2022 Quilted Table Runner - Frosted Memories


While I thoroughly enjoyed making all these quilted Christmas table runners this year, this one with Frosted Memories by Holly Taylor for Moda Fabrics is my favorite, hands down. 


Years ago (December 2012 - how has it been 10 years?!?!) I made my very first throw quilt with a jelly roll of brushed Frosted Memories. That quilt has been so used and loved! 


Later I was able to get my hands on a few fat quarters and made a couple of identical quilted table runners, one for myself and one to gift. As I was organizing and digging through my Christmas/Winter bin of fabric December 2022, I became reacquainted with the remnants of these fat quarters and just had to make a fresh tablerunner quilt.

For some reason I'm totally thrilled that I still love fabrics I loved over 10 years ago.


The strips here were cut at 2.5" (same as a jelly roll precut strip) at about 14" long.


I always use a heavy flannel as batting in my quilted table runners and wall hangings. Flannel gives a sturdiness and flatness that batting (wool or cotton) does not.


Tried something a little different with the quilting and just LOVE how the diagonal straight-line grid quilting turned out.


I doubt I'll ever do diagonal quilting on a large quilt again with my regular sewing machine but quilting this table runner on the diagonal was very doable.


This runner was a very quick, very fun finish.
I love everything about it - the memories (all my family know and love this fabric line), the coziness and warmth, the colors, the quilting, its simplicity.

Avalon leftovers - a pretty little runner





What do you do with leftover charm squares that are too pretty to toss? Slice them in half and make a pretty little runner featuring my favorite Fig Tree blue from the fabric line Avalon for Moda Fabrics.

This was a quick, super fun project to finish - finished in a short afternoon.

Super fun wavy quilting.

Crisp, clean and pretty. Really like the binding and border fabric matching.



Love me a little quilt roll : )

Winter Blues runner


Turning this selection of prints from the Town Square collection by Holly Taylor for Moda into a long log-cabin-block runner was the plan from the moment I first saw this fabric collection.  I have always wanted to work up a one color quilt. These blues were the perfect opportunity! (Blue is my favorite color : )


These blocks worked up so fast. Pieces can be cut and pieced in the traditional piecing method, but I chose to strip piece these. I tried this method with Autumn Beauty Runner and loved how quickly the blocks went together. Again, I pre-pressed the fabric with Best Press and came up the same results - crisp, flat blocks!



Straight line quilting was just the perfect touch - clean and simple. Love it! Makes me smile every time I walk past it : ) Hmm, is that totally silly or totally understandable???


             I also love a good quilt roll : ) and 84" makes a good one!













This blue-loving family couldn't be happier with how this runner turned out. It was such a joy working on this quilt. My "winter blues" are now history.  So, so glad I pushed through my creating doldrum and made that first cut.



It's going to work just fine on the entertainment center until it's time to put out something for spring. (Yes, that's one last little bit of Christmas still out. Just not ready to put it away yet.) My young teenage son said it's his favorite quilt. Score one for mom! : )

Dandelion Girl - a simple quilted runner


Ah! Dandelion Girl - oh, how I've wanted to make with you for so long - about 4 years to be exact : )

This fabric line designed by Fig Tree for Moda Fabrics released March 2008. By the time I first laid eyes on her, Dandelion Girl was already out of print and hard to find. All my local quilt shop had was a layer cake kit, and it was a bit out of budget. So I let it pass and pass and pass until it was gone. Oh well.


Then my connections grew and I discovered personal fabric destashing. Last summer (2015) I lucked upon a couple charm packs and a jelly roll. Score!!!! (insert joyous happy dance : )

Fast forward a few projects to this spring and I made up my mind that now was the time to make with Dandelion Girl. A charm pack paired with squares of Moda Bella Porcelain morphed into 84 half-square triangles (I love HSTs!) There are SO many ways to layout HSTs, but I chose to keep it simple and traditional and let the fabrics shine on their own.

I love the colors of this collection - cheerful and warming.  Just the right touch that I think will work from spring into fall.

This runner was all about the fabric so straight-line quilting for the quilting win to keep it clean, simple and unobtrusive.

This quilt proved quite photogenic. So much fun photographing! 

Though capturing 84" can be a bit challenging.

Love it with this crochet basket!!!


It was absolutely joy and lots of fun working and making with Dandelion Girl by Fig Tree. If you ever want to remake a line, this line has my vote : )

Terrain table runner finish

This lovely tablerunner has been in the works for over a year.


Purchased a Terrain charm pack fall 2011 (I think?) with plans to make a runner for my sister and her husband for Christmas 2011. Yup, you guessed it. That didn't happen, but I persisted, stuck with my plan, and got this runner made and finished as a spring gift 2013. 


The colors are bright and bold. I had my doubts about how the finished table runner was going to feel. But no worries. The more the quilt top hung in my crafting corner waiting to be quilted, the more it grew on me. All the colors and prints work together for a welcoming bright, cheerful splash of color.

Most importantly, the recipients were surprised and are very pleased to display it on their TV stand. 


They like that it is reversible. The reversibility wasn't planned but was a surprise turn in my plans for this little quilt. My selected backing fabric ended up being way too small (hmm, that happens when there is over a year between initial plans and finishing : ) I improvised, added some solid borders, and voila! - a reversible runner. Couldn't have planned it better. I like how the runner now has two different looks.

I really like the finished quilt and love the quilting. So very glad I went ahead and used this charm pack and bit of yardage as planned. Another moment that is truly better late than never.
