Simple Irish Chain {Table} Topper in Bohemian Blue

Another scrappy quilt project finished!
I was enjoying working with Bohemian Blue by Wilmington Prints so much that I kept going with the leftover strips.


Using my Simple Irish Chain {Table} quilt pattern, I made up a bunch of cute 9-patch blocks.


Using the 7 x 7 block layout those cute 9-patch blocks turned into a lovely quilted table topper or wallhanging finishing at about 31" x 31".


I like how the simple straight-line quilting created little quilted 9-patches in the blank spaces.


This lovely quilted blue and green beauty was intended to hang in our master bathroom, but it turned out a little big (5 x 5 layout would have been better) so now it's currently hanging in our breakfast and really does brighten and cozy up the space perfectly!


It is quite satisfying to have made the scraps up into a second quilt right away. This trend of making with leftover pieces will probably not continue : ) but it has been fun.

Bohemian Blue Star Blossom Quilt

Last summer (2021) while vacationing in the Lake Ada, MN, area I visited a local quilt shop and fell hard, real hard, for the blues and greens of Bohemian Blue by Lisa Audit for Wilmington Prints.
They are just the perfect shades, in my opinion, and will always hold a special place in my heart because, well, I found them while at Lake Ada.


This Bohemian Blue version of my quilt pattern Star Blossom began with these little split-quarter-square triangle blocks - cutest little blocks ever!!!


Put split-quarter-square triangles together with regular half-square triangle blocks and you get a beautiful pinwheel star. 


Isn't this quilt center beautiful?!
I'm so glad this is a spring/summer quilt.
We are going to be able to enjoy it for several months.



The Star Blossom quilt pattern works well as a quilted table topper as well as a wallhanging.


The double borders of this simple quilt allow you to showcase a couple of favorite fabric prints.
Isn't the floral print on navy darling?


More diagonal straight-line grid quilting. 
When it's the perfect touch, you go with it.
Diagonal quilting is the only time I mark the quilt before using my walking foot to quilt.


I love the comfy-home-country feel this straight-line quilting adds to any quilt.


I'm thrilled with how my latest version of the Star Blossom quilt pattern turned out. 
It's a fairly quick quilt to finish and can be made with fat quarters or quarter yard cuts.

Super quick leftover charms table runner - mini tutorial

 

It might have taken longer to put away the leftover charm squares of my Crystal Lane (by Bunny Hill Designs for Moda Fabrics) charm pack than to make up this super quick, super easy quilted table runner.

Using these quick steps, you can make up a quick table runner for yourself as well.

      1. Cut charms in half.
      2. Piece to desired length (in this case width of fabric - WOF).
      3. Cut two pieces of fabric WOF - 3" and 5.5".
      4. Piece to either side of charm strip.
      5. Press, baste, quilt and bind. Voila! Finished!

Now, can we talk about that cute little decorative stitch for a minute or two?


I wanted to keep the quilting the usual simple straight-line quilting, but I also really wanted to change it up a bit. Enter trying out one of the many decorative stitches that my machine can do.


Love love love it!!!
It's all the things - cute, pretty, vintage, special (at least I think so : )


It's not the original stitch I had selected, but after doing a sample I went with this one because it stitches out thicker and looks more like hand embroidery.


Very happy with this very easy quilted tablerunner using up leftover charm/5 inch squares.
Coordinates perfectly with A Charming Barn Quilt 3 wallhanging that I made a week or two ago.
